Caleb Plant: Don’t be surprised if I beat Canelo Alvarez easier than you think

Super middleweight titleholder Caleb Plant was in attendance for Saturday night’s Pacquiao-Ugas fight and took some time to chat with media members about his big upcoming undisputed title fight with Canelo Alvarez. Check out some excerpts of what Plant had to say below.

On a number of fights being canceled due to COVID and if he and Canelo agreed to get vaccinated in their contract as a precaution

“I don’t know specifically what he has to sign up for. No one’s put a gun to my head and say ‘you have to sign this for the vaccination’ or anything like that. To be honest, not for any political reason, but I haven’t been a big fan of the vaccination, but I’m not opposed to people getting the vaccination. But I feel like if you’re healthy and you’re young and you’re strong like I am, you know, the long term effects I’m not exactly sure what they are but I feel like if I got COVID I could get through it fine. But I did get the vaccination and I’m vaccinated because I don’t want this moment to slip by and I’ve already sacrificed so much for the sport.”

On if he was concerned the Canelo fight wasn’t going to happen after reports it was called off

“Like I said, I thought we had a deal, I thought it was going through and it came back and it blew up but here we are. So I wasn’t too discouraged because nothing ever happens for me just how I want it to, or anybody for that matter, there’s always going to be bumps in the road so I knew it would happen no matter what, I just didn’t know if it was going to come back around this early but it did and I’m happy it did.”

On Canelo having big fight experience and if that could affect Plant fighting in front of a huge crowd

“I don’t think it’s going to affect me at all…I’ve always been the type of guy that performs the best under the brightest lights. And when there’s a big crowd and the pressure’s on I’ve always stepped up to the plate so I feel like the more people the merrier.”

On if he’s looking forward to a brutal fight with Canelo

“I’m ready to take it wherever it has to go to get my hand raised. But don’t be surprised if it’s easier than ya’ll think.”
