A huge unification super-middleweight bout is in the works.
WBA “Super” champion Callum Smith (26-0) could face WBO champ Billy Joe Saunders (28-0) till the edn of 2019.
Smith, 29, is one of the candidates for Saul Alvarez’s next adversary, but the ongoing feud between their promoters – Oscar de la Hoya and Eddie Hearn, could damage the clash. A potential fight with the 29-years-old Saunders will draw huge interest in Britain and Europe, but Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn will have to put their egos aside and work for the good of boxing.
Smith himself stated that he received a 50-50 offer to face “Superb”, but the PPV should be on BT Sport and that might be a problem, because Matchroom Boxing has a deal with Sky Sports.
“Mundo” last fought on June 1 in New York when he defeated Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam. Saunders’s last fight was in May when he claimed the WBO belt against Shefat Isufi.
