David Avanesyan to face Liam Taylor on October 2nd Eubank Jr-Elbir undercard

Sky Sports and promotional outfit Boxxer announced on Wednesday the supporting bouts for the October 2nd event featuring Chris Eubank Jr vs Sven Elbir. David Avanesyan (27-3-1, 15 KO) and Liam Taylor (23-1-1, 11 KO) will square off for Avanesyan’s EBU European welterweight title.

For Taylor, this fight represents a great opportunity for him to graduate from domestic to European level, but comes against a streaking Avanesyan who seems to have put it all together after a disappointing TKO loss to Egidijus Kavaliauskas in 2018. Since then, he’s been on a four-fight win streak, all coming by way of knockout. Most recently he survived an early storm against Josh Kelly before turning up the pressure and stopping him in the sixth round.

Undefeated cruiserweight Richard Riakporhe (11-0, 8 KO) will look to stay busy against Krzysztof Twardowski (9-2, 6 KO) in a fight scheduled for ten rounds, a decided step down in opposition compared to his past several fights, which includes wins over Tommy McCarthy and Chris Billam-Smith.

Also on the card is a domestic ten-round cruiserweight clash between Mikael Lawal (13-0, 7 KO) and Steven Ward (13-1, 4 KO). Ward’s only loss came in the Golden Contract tournament against eventual winner Ricards Bolotniks, and this will be his second fight since suffering that first-round knockout. On paper, this looks to be a pretty even, competitive matchup.

Several more ten-round fights are also scheduled for this card, including super-middleweights Jamal De Loux (8-1, 4 KO) vs Germaine Brown (9-0, 3 KO) and middleweights Linus Udofia (16-0, 8 KO) vs Xhuljo Vrenozi (17-3, 4 KO).

Rounding out the night is the professional debut of Ebonie Jones against Bec Connolly (3-10), and Joe Pigford (17-0, 16 KO) against an opponent yet to be named.
