Joseph Parker planning August return

Kiwi bruiser Joseph Parker is reportedly planning to help DAZN launch in New Zealand. Manager David Higgins tells Newshub that he and Eddie Hearn are working on an August event to be held in front of an “exclusive live audience,” with Parker possibly facing Aussie veteran Lucas Browne.

“Lucas Browne is a much bigger name than Junior Fa,” Higgins told Newshub. “He’s been in a sold-out O2 arena in London, has a profile in the UK and he’s only had a couple of losses to very good opponents.”

“At this point we’re optimistic and we’re doing due diligence on running an event with less than 100 people, and how that could work on network television.

“It’s a matter of the costs being less than the revenue and what that revenue looks like in this environment.

“We’ll only pull the trigger if it’s safe and economically viable. At this point, I’m reasonably confident.”

Browne (29-2, 25 KO) who got his liver mulched by Dave Allen last year, turned 41 last month and hasn’t turned in a noteworthy performance since his star-making(?) comeback knockout of Ruslan Chagaev in 2016. The article mentions Demsey McKean (18-0, 12 KO) as a possible alternative; the 29-year-old Ipswich native boasts a shiny record but has yet to beat anyone more notable than Tai Tuivasa and Jonathan Rice.

Parker (27-2, 21 KO) last fought in February, extending his winning streak to three with a TKO finish of Shawndell Winters. He’s since worked on flexing his acting chops and traded barbs with Dillian Whyte, whom he fought to a narrow decision loss in 2018.
