Karate 1-Series A Santiago opens a thrilling season

The new season of the best Karate starts this weekend with the 2020 Karate 1-Series A Santiago. The capital of Chile hosts the opening event of the year as top karatekas fight to win the qualification to the Olympic Games.

Nearly 500 athletes from 65 countries are gathering in Chile for the first event of the season. In addition to launching the year of international karate, the Karate 1-Series A Santiago is the last tournament of the Olympic qualification period to be held in the American continent.

The competition is scheduled to start tomorrow (Friday, January 10).

The tournament will conclude on Sunday, January 12 when the winners will be crowned. All the finals of the event will be made available LIVE and FREE on the WKF YouTube channel. The title-deciding bouts are set to begin at 14:30 (local time) and will finish at 18:00 (local time).

A host of World champions are leading the high-profile athletes competing in Santiago this weekend. Serbia’s Jovana Prekovic in Female Kumite -61kg, Azerbaijan’s Irina Zaretska in Female Kumite -68kg, Italy’s Angelo Crescenzo in Male Kumite -60kg, Iran’s Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh in Male Kumite -75kg, Croatia’s Ivan Kvesic and Germany’s Jonathan Horne in Male Kumite +84kg are the world-title holders participating at the event.
