Tel Aviv promoted to Judo’s Grand Slam tournaments

The International Judo Federation has elected the city of Tel Aviv to host a Grand Slam tournament next year for the first time.

Up until now, Tel Aviv was part of the host cities of the IJF Grand Prix tournaments, but the Israeli Judo Federation has confirmed this week that they will be upgraded.

The event is scheduled for February 2021.

“Today we received great news,” said Moshe Ponte, the President of the Israel Judo Federation. “One of the most prestigious competitions in the world is coming to Israel. The Grand Slam will take place here in February, during an Olympic year.

Israel has hosted the IJF’s marquee Grand Prix tournament in Tel Aviv for the past two years. In 2018, Israel also hosted the European Judo Championships.
