Teofimo Lopez tests positive for COVID-19, Kambosos fight moved to August

The unified lightweight champion of the world Teofimo Lopez has tested positive for COVID-19 just days before his anticipated return to the ring.

The American was scheduled to defend his belts against George Kambosos this Saturday night in Miami, but now the whole fight card has been pushed back to August 14.

Lopez had to fly to Miami yesterday, but the 23-year-old decided that it’s best to stay at home at this point.

The fight card was scheduled to be held at LoanDepot Park, where the Miami Marlins play, on Saturday, and Triller had begun heavy promotion of the bout. The Marlins have a home game scheduled for the night of August 14, so Triller will need to secure a new location for the rescheduled bout.

Australia’s Kambosos called out Lopez to be irresponsible in a Twitter statement.
