UFC 266 headliner Brian Ortega: Nick Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler is ‘the real main event’

Brian Ortega might be the UFC 266 main attraction, but ‘T-City’ believes Nick Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler will steal the show.

Ortega will take on Volkanovski for the featherweight title in the main event and, while he’s excited about the matchup, the No. 2-ranked contender claims he’s even more stoked to watch Diaz-Lawler, which will serve as a five-round fight despite no title being on the line.

“I’m super stoked for it,” Ortega told The Schmo when asked about Diaz-Lawler (h/t Low Kick MMA). “Trust me, I’m not a hater to my own fight but the fans will agree with me. That is kind of like the real main event. You know that fight is dope.”

“And now you see them fighting again. I haven’t seen Nick in a while. Any time if Nick or Nate Diaz show up, you know damn well that the energy is just lit. The arena is going to be packed with the Diaz fans.”

Diaz will return to the octagon after a six-year hiatus to take on Lawler in a replay of their 2004 welterweight matchup which saw the former Strikeforce welterweight champion KO Lawler with a beautiful right hook that sent ‘Ruthless’ stumbling all over the cage.
