Saul Canelo Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin have a done deal to meet in a trilogy fight, according to ESPN.
The bout will be on September 12 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas after the two take interim fights first in June.
Four-division champion Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) was scheduled to face off against England’s Billy Joe Saunders in a super middleweight unification bout on May 2 in Las Vegas. That fight is expected to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
After a disputed draw in their first bout, Canelo defeated IBF and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in their rematch on a points decision. Many thought it could have gone the other way.
It was the first career loss for Golovkin (40-1, 35 KOs).
