Amanda Nunes will defend her featherweight title for the first time against Felicia Spencer at UFC 250, which takes place on May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Multiple sources confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Thursday following an initial report from ESPN.
It’s been rumored for the past few weeks that Nunes was expected to defend her 145-pound title but she was just waiting on an opponent to emerge.
She ultimately ended up with two possible choices after Spencer demolished Zarah Fairn and Megan Anderson knocked out Norma Dumont at UFC Norfolk this past weekend. Ultimately, Spencer ended up getting the nod because she already holds a win over Anderson back in 2019.
Overall, Spencer is 2-1 in her UFC career with her only loss coming in a decision to former champion Cris Cyborg.
Nunes took the 145-pound title from Cyborg back in 2018 as she became the latest fighter to hold championships in two different divisions. Lately, Nunes has been busy with her bantamweight title with wins over Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie but now she will return to featherweight for her upcoming fight against Spencer.
Nunes vs. Spencer joins the UFC 250 lineup, which also features a bantamweight title fight as Henry Cejudo takes on Jose Aldo.
