UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was arrested early Thursday morning on multiple charges stemming from a DWI stop made by Albuquerque Police.
A video provided to MMA Fighting by the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office taken on the lapel of the arresting officer has now been released, which shows Jones undergoing sobriety tests and eventually being placed in handcuffs.
From the initial report that accompanied his arrest, officers stated that Jones took the field sobriety tests and “performed poorly on all three” as well as performing poorly on 2 out of the 3 alternative tests. Police said they smelled alcohol “coming from his facial region” and Jones admitted to drinking that night.
“I have ADD (attention deficit disorder), “ Jones said during one of the tests. “I get punched in the head for a living.”
In the video, Jones also explains to the officers how he has problems with his short term memory as they explained the sobriety tests to him.
“My short term memory is really bad,” Jones said. “People don’t know that about me but it’s really bad.”
After completing one of the tests, the officer asks Jones about his intention to drive again that night after previously revealing that he had been drinking.
“I got stir crazy,” Jones said. “I got pulled over just being nice to the homeless people. I got stir crazy. It was my first drive in two weeks. I saw these homeless guys, I was being nice to them, having a conversation with them. Treating them like humans.”
Eventually after completing the sobriety tests, the officer tells Jones that he’s being placed under arrest for DWI. Throughout the entire encounter, Jones called the police officers “sir” over and over again and showed no signs of resistance as they placed him in handcuffs.
Jones was eventually booked on charges of aggravated DWI as well as negligent use of a firearm, possession of an open container and having no proof of insurance with him at the time of his arrest.
He was later released from custody with his first court date currently set for April 8 in Albuquerque.
