Unified world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. said that the former WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman is not somebody he’s willing to fight in his comeback.
Spence, 30, admitted he prefers to go one on one with another former champion – Danny Garcia.
Spence hasn’t fought since September when he defeated Shawn Porter, capturing the WBC belt. Unfortunately for Spence Jr., he was involved in what could very well be a lethal car crash.
Even though Spence got lucky in that car accident, it is still unknown if he’ll be able to continue his boxing career. Still, it is an interesting statement having in mind that Thurman defeated Garcia back in 2017.
“Danny Garcia this year or next year, maybe Keith Thurman, I don’t know. Probably not. I don’t really care about him anymore,” said Spence in talking to Premier Boxing about his plans. “He didn’t give me an opportunity when I wanted it. So I don’t care about fighting him.
“I was calling him out and wanted to fight him, but he didn’t want to give me an opportunity. He didn’t want to fight me. So now I don’t need him. I don’t need him at all. He’s not even on my radar. I feel like he’s not even on my level. Just because he fought Pacquiao, they gave him a little bit of kudos,” said Spence.
