Anthony Smith probably isn’t looking for any advice regarding his recent home invasion but Jon Jones is going to give it to him anyways.
The war of words between the former opponents ratcheted up in recent days after Jones sent out a tweet addressed to Smith following an altercation with an intruder breaking into his house in Omaha, Neb.
Smith recounted the terrifying incident where the intruder entered his house through an open garage door before the UFC veteran tackled him to the ground and bludgeoned him with punches, elbows and knees for the better part of six minutes until police finally arrived to place the suspect under arrest.
Afterwards, Jones commented that he was glad Smith’s family was OK but added “no way dude would have left my house walking.”
That triggered a response from Smith, who blasted Jones for his insensitive attitude towards a horrific situation that could have gone much worse with his wife and children in the house when the intruder broke in.
“What a perfect moment to flex, Jon, in the middle of a disaster like that in my home,” Smith said. “What a perfect opportunity to flex at how g*ddamn cool you are. Just when you thought ‘that’s pretty admirable of Jon Jones to reach out and well-wish me,’ and then as you continue reading you’re like ‘oh that’s right, I forgot you’re still a f*cking douchebag.’ It’s just his opportunity to insert himself and make sure everybody knows how cool and bad ass he is. …
“Just for a second I thought you were human and you had a soul and then I realized yo, you’re still the same piece of sh*t you’ve always been. … You’re such a douchebag.”
Well, Jones didn’t take too kindly to those criticisms because he fired back at Smith in a now deleted message on Twitter where he once again referenced the recent home invasion as well as their fight back in 2019.
“Anthony, if you’re going to leave your garage door open all night, hurry up and buy the family a gun, some mace or something,” Jones wrote.
“A douchebag more like me could’ve completely had his way with you all night, that could’ve been bad for everyone.”
Jones then gleefully proclaimed his intention to delete the message and let social media do the hard work for him.
When it comes to Jones’ comments, Smith had previously stated that he typically has a firearm nearby but he reacted after his wife shook him awake to tell him there was an intruder in the house. With his children sleeping just a few feet away, Smith explained that he just went on instinct and confronted the intruder, who was moving towards him after they spotted each other.
Thankfully, Smith and his family were unharmed in the incident and the suspect was arrested and later charged with criminal trespassing.
As far as Jones goes, Smith definitely won’t enjoy seeing this latest message even if it was later deleted from Twitter. While Jones defeated Smith in their previous meeting, this back-and-forth exchange certainly seems to be reigniting their rivalry once again.
