Deontay Wilder haven’t considered to step aside for an instant heavyweight championship bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
The “dream” unification fight wouldn’t happen now, according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.
Wilder made it clear that he wants to avenge his loss.
“I know Eddie Hearn, who is in charge of putting together the Joshua-Pulev fight, is looking at those potential sites, and we’re looking at potential sites for a Fury-Wilder fight,” said Top Rank promoter Arum to Ringside Reporter Live.
“We’ll be consulting with them once the path is clear to do a Fury-Wilder fight. I’m optimistic that it’ll happen this year. No interim bouts [before Fury vs. Wilder 3],” said Arum.
“The fights can happen but not until the last quarter of this year,” said Arum when asked about Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder and Vasily Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez.”
“And they may very well not happen in the United States or the United Kingdom, but there are other parts of the world that have tamed the virus because they took precautions early on, which we didn’t take here in the United States.”
‘We sat on our a** for two months, letting the virus get out of hand, and we’re paying the price, also, in the U.K. where they did a similar thing. But there are other places in the world in Asia where they did make plans to deal with the virus. Their outbreak hasn’t been anywhere as near as ours.”
“The virus seems like it’s under control, and we believe they’ll be open to events with spectators a lot faster than we well,” said Arum.
