Golden Boy Promotions are looking for other options for Canelo Alvarez’s return this upcoming September, according to several US media outlets.
Initially, DAZN wanted to put the trilogy fight between the Mexican superstar and Gennady Golovkin for the fall, but the Kazakh icon will be fighting his mandatory and that leaves Canelo free for negotiations with whoever he wants.
Billy Joe Saunders was the other main option for Alvarez, as they were planning on having that fight in May 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic postponed the bout. Now there are rumors that the fight could be pushed back until May 2021.
Travel bans could also play a major role in Canelo’s next opponent because there is a big chance Saunders won’t be able to get in the States. Instead, Golden Boy Promotions is looking for boxers who are already in the US.
