According to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who told the Ak and Barak Show on Sirius XM, unified lightweight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko has agreed to take a purse reduction in order to help make a fight against Teofimo Lopez possible.
Last week it was reported that Lopez was unwilling to make certain financial concessions to fight Lomachenko, but Loma is apparently willing to help that cause by giving up some dollars.
“He is voluntarily under these circumstances reduced his (own) purse in order to get the fight done.”
Arum also says that he believes Lopez is starting to realize that his financial demands are a bit out of touch considering the world we’re currently living in, and adds that if Lopez is going to wait out this virus situation in orders to have fans in attendance so he can get his full purse, it’s a bad move, although he would respect the decision.
Hopefully this move helps bridge the gap for both fighters to lock this fight in, as it’s one of the most highly anticipated matchups in the sport at this time.
