MMA fans will have to wait a bit more in order to see one of the most intriguing lightweight clashes.
Former interim champions Tony Ferguson and Dustin Poirier won’t be facing each other at the upcoming UFC 254 in October.
UFC was trying to make this fight the co-main event to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje and for a while, everything seemed to be going OK even though there was nothing official from the organization.
However, upon leaving training camp following botched negotiations with the UFC, Poirier revealed that he had not come to an agreement with the UFC and therefore pulled out.
Poirier told ESPN that he would be willing to take the fight with Ferguson if the UFC would agree to his terms.
“I just need to be compensated if they want this fight,” he said. “Simple as that.
“I’m a prizefighter and the prize needs to be right.”
“The Diamond” was last seen inside the Octagon this June when he defeated Dan Hooker via UD.
“El Cucuy” had to fight Nurmagomedov earlier this year, but the coronavirus postponed the fight and he battled Justin Gaethje for the interim title but lost via TKO in the 5th round.
