It seems the drama surrounding the Dustin Poirier – Tony Ferguson bout won’t fade anytime soon.
Poirier himself admitted that the negotiations between him and UFC went down because they didn’t meet his financial request and that was the reason for turning down the offer he got. The White said the fight is off and that “El Cucuy” will have a new opponent in his next fight.
But then Tony Ferguson jumped in and prompted White to “pay the man” in order to make the dream fight.
But now the UFC President has made it public on why and how Dustin Poirier didn’t want the fight and that he price himself out of the clash.
“Listen, I like Dustin,” White told reporters at the Dana White’s Contender Series 33 post-fight news conference on Tuesday. “I’m not going to sit up here and say anything negative about Dustin, he’s a great kid.
I don’t know if it was he didn’t want to fight in Abu Dhabi or what his deal was – he didn’t want to fight.
“Listen, there’s a lot of different ways to turn down a fight.
“Negotiating yourself out of one is one of the ways you can do it. So for whatever reason, he didn’t want to take this fight. Only he knows that.”
