UFC welterweight Leon Edwards is positive he will not only win his next fight, but he would demolish his opponent Khamzat Chimaev.
Edwards and Chimaev will be healdining the UFC Fight Night 186 on December 19.
The Swedish fighter kicked off his UFC career with a bang – three wins in the span of a two and a half months. First he defeated Jonh Philips via submission, then he beat Rhys McKee, and in September Chimaev KO’d Gerald Meerschaert in just 19 seconds.
UFC President Dana White has praised the Dagestan native by claiming he’s a “special talent”, but Britain’s Edwards believes he’s the one to derail the hype train.
“The UFC loves him. Dana loves him,” Edwards told mmafighting.com.
“They all think he can’t be beat. When I go out there and take him out, I can’t see what they can say next to give me my title shot. I’d be on a nine-fight win streak. I believe this was the fight to make and now here we are.”
Edwards, 29, is on an 8-fight win streak dating back since 2016. The last man to beat Leon is Kamaru Usman, the current UFC welterweight champion.
Edwards also said that he feels like the former lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedow who had to wait two years before he got his well deserved title shot.
“That’s exactly how I feel, right,” Edwards admitted. “Dana, I’m going to smash your boy. I cannot wait. It’s going to be a very good night come December.”
