Former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua’s best days are behind him and he’ll be the first to say that.
Once one of the most feared men in the MMA world, now “Shogun” is nowhere near what he used to be, but father time is still undefeated.
The Brazilian lost his last fight against Paul Craig at UFC 255 this past weekend, as he got submitted in the second round. It remains to be seen what the future holds for him, but according to UFC President Dana White, that should be his last fight.
Here’s what the main man had to say after UFC 255:
“I hope it is, I hope that tonight was his last night,” White said. “I would like to see him retire.”
And while discussing Rua’s performance specifically, and the former champ’s contract situation, the UFC President said this.
“Shogun looked old and looked like a shell of his former self tonight. Yeah, I’d like to see him hang it up hopefully.”
“I think he has two fights left on his deal,” White said about Rua’s UFC contract. “But yeah, I’d like to see him retire.”
