2019 NJSIAA Girls State Wrestling Championships tournament held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
Annmarie Lebron won her first bout by fall, but lost her second by pin. She will have an opportunity to wrestle back to third place.
“It’s the most fun I’ve ever had on the mat,” Lebron said just minutes after she suffered a loss by fall. “(Parsippany’s Sydney Petzinger) challenged me and brought out the best in me, even though I lost. It was a great experience.
“I just love the sport, even around the house, I’m like this (getting into a wrestling stance). My uncle wrestles, my boyfriend wrestles and now I wrestle. I just love it.”
No matter what happens Saturday, Lebron etched her name into South Jersey history, becoming the first local female to earn a win at the state meet.
