Kamaru Usman had a not so subtle warning for Jake Paul as the war of words between them continues to heat up.
Just after he knocked out Jorge Masvidal to retain his title at UFC 261, Usman was asked about the beef between Paul and former UFC champion Daniel Cormier, who had to be separated at the event after they got into a heated confrontation. Afterwards, Usman said he would gladly take care of Paul because none of the fighters in his own division were making enough noise to keep his attention.
Paul accepted the challenge but Usman fired back while reminding him that he’s “not a Disney kid” and perhaps he should watch his words when talking to the best welterweight on the planet.
Usman responded on Wednesday with a stern message aimed at Paul as he seeks to escalate this ongoing battle to raise his own profile while going up against a UFC champion.
“I understand you think this is a game which is probably why you don’t realize that this is how people truly get hurt,” Usman wrote on Twitter. “I don’t play fighting and I can change your life in the worst way.”
While the tension between Usman and Paul continues to ratchet up, the likelihood that they will ever see each other in the cage or ring is somewhere between slim to none.
Usman is a contracted UFC champion and UFC president Dana White has made it crystal clear that he’s not interested in doing business with Paul, especially after his first three boxing wins came over a fellow YouTube celebrity, a former NBA player and a retired mixed martial artist in Ben Askren.
Still, Usman had no problem taking aim at Paul, especially after his most recent jab brought his daughter into the fight.
