WBO World Bantamweight champ John Riel Casimero managed to defend his belt following a SD victory over WBA World Bantamweight champ Guillermo Rigondeaux.
The Philipino fighter got the W after 116-112, 117-111 and 113-115 in favour of the “Quadro Alas”. Unfortunatelly, the fight didn’t live up to the hype, as it was probably one of the most boring championship bouts in a long time.
It was a slowly start for both guys, as they were defence first and attack second. In the second round the Cuban slipped to the canvas and Casimero managed to land 4 rabbit punches before the ref stopped him. As the time went by, fans were starting to get angrier by the lack of action and the boos started to fly.
Rigondeaux was fighting on his back foot most of the time and there were moments in the fight in which he looked like he didn’t want to be inside the ropes. The Cubas was running most of the time looking for the clins and was really uneffective with his counter shots.
Rigondaeux best round was the eight one, when he finally managed to land a brutal counterpunch ot Casimero’s chin, but the Philippino took it like a champ and marched on with the rest of the fight, securing the win.
