The World Boxing Council has ordered a fight between WBC interim lightweight champion Joseph Diaz and Ryan Garcia. The two were already in negotiations, so the WBC decision to order the fight is meaningless because it’s already going to happen.
Still, this :order” raises a lot of eyebrows, because Diaz will be defending his interim belt instead of him facing the real WBC champion Devin Haney.
The 28-year-old “Jo Jo” Diaz hasn’t fought since July 2021 when he captured the interim belt after he defeated Javier Fortuna via UD.
Garcia, 23, was last seen in action in January when he TKO’d Britains’ Luke Campbell. At this moment, there is no information where and when the fight between Diaz and Garcia will take place.
