Sergio Pettis will put his Bellator bantamweight title on the line for the first time when he faces off with former champion Kyoji Horiguchi on Dec. 3 at Bellator 272.
Bellator announced the fight on Wednesday via the Morning Kombat show.
The booking comes after Horiguchi inked a deal to join the Bellator roster after he previously held the title while still under contract with RIZIN in Japan. His previous reign was part of a co-promotion between the two organizations but unfortunately Horiguchi suffered a knee injury that forced him to relinquish the title while he was recovering from surgery.
Once Horiguchi surrendered the belt, Bellator crowned a new bantamweight champion in Juan Archuleta, who in turn lost the belt to Pettis via unanimous decision back in May.
Now the former UFC title contender will attempt to reclaim the belt he never lost in the cage when Horiguchi faces Pettis on Dec. 3 with a location for the event still to be determined.
Pettis has gone undefeated since signing with Bellator while building a four-fight win streak overall including his final bout with the UFC before his contract came to an end.
In addition to Pettis vs. Horiguchi, the upcoming Bellator 272 card also added two more fights including Josh Hill taking on Jared Scoggins as well as Keoni Diggs facing John de Jesus. More fights will be announced in the coming weeks.
