WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol admits he was shocked when the scorecards were announced for Saturday’s fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The fight took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
While most at ringside had scored the bout either 118-110 or 117-111 for the champion, the three official judges had it 115-113 for Bivol, who walked away with a big upset win by unanimous decision.
“I was a little bit shocked when I heard 115-113. I thought: ‘Maybe I lost today.’ I thought I won but everything was against me today. Then, at the end, even [promoter] Eddie Hearn was congratulating me. He was smiling, he was happy for me – but not too much,” Bivol said.
Canelo, who still holds the undisputed crown at super middleweight, was taking part in the second light heavyweight fight of his career.

There is an immediate rematch clause, which only Canelo can exercise.
He was already scheduled to face Gennadiy Golovkin in a trilogy fight this coming September. That fight is now obviously on hold, until Canelo decides on his future.
As for Bivol, he is unsure of his next move until Canelo decides on the rematch.
“I don’t know. I don’t have a rematch yet. I don’t even know what I will eat today or do tomorrow,” Bivol said.
