The third and probably final fight between two of the very best boxers of this era is in the works for this upcoming fall.
We’re talking, of course, about the trilogy between Saul Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin. According to numerous reports, the Mexican will be putting on the line his four super middleweight world titles against the unified middleweight champion.
As of now there is no date nor venue, but the favorite for landing the fight is Las Vegas where the first two bouts took place in 2017 and 2018.
The first bout ended in a controversial draw, while the rematch ended with a controversial win for the Mexican.
Alvarez lost his last fight against WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol via UD on May 7, while the 40-year-old GGG defeated Ryota Murata in Japan via ninth-round stoppage.
“We already had that contract [with Golovkin], that agreement, so we have to continue what we started,” said Canelo to ESPN Knockout.
“I think those are the two biggest fights in boxing, the fight with Golovkin and the rematch with Bivol,” Canelo said, sounding very much like his promoter Eddie Hearn with those words.
“Unfortunately, we lost, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to try again,” Alvarez said about his loss to Bivol.
