Josh Taylor: Nobody can convince me that I lost the Catterall fight

WBO, IBF junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor wants to make it clear that nobody will ever convince him that he lost his February clash with mandatory challenger Jack Catterall.

The Briton, who suffered his first knockdown as a pro, walked away that night with a controversial twelve round split decision win.

Since that undisputed bout, Taylor made a decision to walk away from the WBC and WBA world titles in order to focus his attention on a rematch with Catterall.

Months later, Taylor is not paying any attention to the critics and still feels confident that he did enough to walk away with the win.

“I was absolutely rubbish but I got the right result,” Taylor told talkSPORT Fight Night. “There’s not anybody in this world that can convince me that I thought I lost the fight. I didn’t think I did lose the fight. I thought I won it by a point or two.”

“I thought he was very negative, on the back foot, holding and I think he should’ve had more than one point taken off him for excessive holding. It’s been and done. I got the decision.”

Taylor admits that he was disappointed with some of the statements that were made by known individuals in the sport – regarding the potential of corruption being involved in the scoring of the Catterall bout.

“After it, people insinuating that there was corruption going on and saying this and saying that and judges getting paid off – which is absolutely ridiculous,” Taylor said. “People who are well respected in the sport shouldn’t be saying things like that.”

A second fight with Catterall is being explored to take place later this year.
