A highly anticipated welterweight unification clash is in the works for this fall – we’re talking of course about the IBF champ Errol Spence Jr. (25-0-0) and the WBC king Shawn Porter (30-2-1).
According to Mike Coppinger, the bout will be a pay-per-view either on Fox (Errol) or SHOWTIME (Shawn). “The Truth” recently stated that his desire is to participate in three fights this year, as he already won his first big match against Mikey Garcia. The 29-year-old is aiming for a summer return and if real negotiations between the two camps start soon, we’ll be seeing a unification fight in late September or early October.
Just a week ago before Errol Spence had successfully defended his belt, Shawn Porter did the same, but in his case, it was way more controversial. The clash with Yordenis Ugas was pretty close and many believe the split decision should have gone the other way.
WBC Welterweight Champion Shawn Porter Wants a PPV Fight Against Errol Spence Next. Negotiations are underway to try and make this a PPV Fight. Will It Happen is the question and how much success will it have. #spenceporter #pbcboxing #jcalderonboxingtalk pic.twitter.com/uxKQoz7iBb

“September is a good month traditionally for PPVs, which is where this fight will probably land since Spence proved he’s a draw,” Coppinger said about the likely rationale behind Spence and Porter looking to fight in September. “August a poor month for PPV. You can’t have Pacquiao-Thurman and Spence-Porter in the same month.”
