The PFL league has recently announced a change in their women’s division for the upcoming season. Instead of featuring a featherweight division, they will now have a flyweight division. This decision was confirmed by CEO Peter Murray at a news conference in Davie, Florida, and is set to take effect during the 2024 PFL season. While it had been previously mentioned as a possibility, it is now officially being implemented.
The PFL league format is expanding to include a women’s flyweight division, joining the already established men’s divisions of featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight. This change marks an exciting development for female fighters in the PFL and may lead to further changes within the league.
While the rosters for the 2024 league season have yet to be announced, it has been revealed that around half of the athletes will come from Bellator following the brand merger. One confirmed member is Dakota Ditcheva (10-0), winner of the 2023 PFL Europe competition in the women’s flyweight division. Fans can also expect to see popular names like Larissa Pacheco and Cris Cyborg competing in out-of-season events, potentially facing each other. Additionally, there will still be a women’s featherweight division maintained within the Bellator series of events as part of their expanded focus on female divisions. According to Murray, this was one of their main goals with the brand merger.
The highly anticipated 2024 promotion is set to kick off with a bang as PFL and Bellator join forces for an epic pay-per-view event on Feb. 24 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
