This past weekend one of the most anticipated boxing clashes of 2019 took place in Las Vegas, US. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (52-1-2) squared up against the American Daniel Jacobs (35-3-0) for a unification middleweight fight (IBF, WBA “Super” and WBC).
The Mexican superstar got the W via UD after a masterful performance against one of the elite fighters in the weight class. Now Alvarez is the proud owner of 4 world titles in two different categories.
The bout itself was above average, even though there were no knockdowns. Both Saul and Daniel showcased excellent footwork and they stuck to their gameplans for the whole fight, which isn’t that easy when you’re talking about one of the best boxers.
Yesterday “CompuBox” released the official stats from the fight – the total amount of landed and thrown punches.
It was obvious in real time that the 28-years-old Mexican was doing a great job from a defensive point of view and now the numbers are backing up the initial impression. The “Miracle Man” has thrown 649 punches, but only 131 of them landed in Alvarez’s body. Saul, on the other hand, has thrown 466 punches and 188 of them were right on the money.
