Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev underwent surgery because of brain swelling, after his loss to Subriel Matias on Friday night.
Trainer Buddy McGirt threw in the towel after Round 11 of the IBF 140-pound eliminator. Then Dadashev needed assistance leaving the ring.
Things went out of control.
He left the arena on a stretcher and was taken to UM “Prince George’s Hospital Center”.

The doctors were unanimous – a two-hour surgery to relieve a subdural hematoma, or bleeding of the brain.
“He will swell over the next few days,” neurosurgeon Mary IH Cobb said. “I don’t know how much brain damage he has.”
“I wouldn’t give up on him,” she said.
Third update from @osunaespn: Maxim Dadashev is going into surgery, medical staff is trying to contact his wife Elizabeth in Russia to find out if he has any allergies or prior brain injuries. Says "swelling has been so great that they need to bring that down."

It was a tough fight. Every round was hard for Dadashev, who was backing up for much of it, attempting to box.
Before the bout the Russian was undefeated.
The scores at the time of the stoppage were 109-100, 108-101 and 107-102 in favor of Matias.
