WKF President Antonio Espinós traveled to the Philippines to attend the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. The head of Karate’s international governing body oversaw the multi-sport event and met with the main sport’s stakeholders in the country.
Mr. Espinós reaffirmed his commitment to the region and supported the development plans for Karate in one of the fastest-growing areas in the world. WKF President was welcomed by the Philippines Karate Federation President Richard Anthony Lim. During his visit to the country, Mr. Espinós also met with the Philippines Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino and the Philippines Sports Commissioner Ramon Fernandez.
Additionally, the WKF President participated in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeast of Asia Karate Federation (SEAK). At the gathering, Mr. Espinós was accompanied by WKF General Secretary Toshihisa Nagura. Asian Karate Federation (AKF) General Secretary Che Kuong Im and AKF Vice-President Rashid Al-Ali also participated in the meeting. The gathering was headed by SEAKF President Tan Sri Senator Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Rustam.
The head of Karate’s international governing body highlighted the importance of Southeastern Asian nations in the progress of the sport. “We have a clear vision for the future that includes the development of the sport in the group of nations that are part of the Southeast of Asia Karate Federation. We at the WKF look forward to working closely with the national federations of SEAKF to ensure that this cooperation leads to significant growth of Karate here,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.
