Anderson Silva finally went under the knife almost a year after his last UFC appearance.
The former UFC middleweight champion posted a video on social media announcing he had knee surgery, saying that “now my knee will be 100 percent.” Silva injured his right knee in the first round of his UFC 237 clash with Jared Cannonier on May 11, 2019.
Immediately after the defeat, Silva’s team said he suffered no serious injury in the bout, but the Brazilian legend hasn’t entered the octagon since.
“I finished my knee surgery. I will recover now,” Silva said in Portuguese. “I’m fine, and wanted to thank everyone’s support, and (thank) my fans that cheer for me. I’ll be 100 percent soon, and do my two fights in the UFC. I wanted to thank every UFC fan. I finished my surgery and everything is fine, I’m going home. Thanks.”
Silva (34-10, 1 no-contest) has mentioned in the past he has two bouts left in his current contract with the UFC. “The Spider” is looking to bounce back from losses to future champion Israel Adesanya and Cannonier, part of a disappointing 1-6-0-1 run in the UFC since 2013.
