The WBO Inter-continental light heavyweight champion – Anthony Yarde (18-0) managed to secure his 18th pro win with a fifth-round stoppage of Travis Reeves (17-4-2) in the sixth defense of his title.
In front of sold out “Royal Hall” in London, the 27-year-old Brit put a masterful performance against the American and there was no doubt that this isn’t going the distance.
Yarde had everything under control from the get-go – he fought perfectly behind his jab, stood in the center of the ring and dictated the pace of the fight, not allowing Reeves to get in a rhythm at all.
“The Beast” once again showcased his excellent timing and his right hand was landing throughout the whole five rounds. With every minute Reeves’s defense was getting torn apart and then in the fifth round Yarde switched the gears and after three massive rights in his opponent’s chin, the ref had no other choice but to waive the fight.
Yarde ranked #1 by the World Boxing Organisation, could step up to a world title fight next against Russia’s Sergey Kovalev, the reigning light heavyweight champion.
