Legendary four-division world champion Roberto Duran has been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Panama, and has been hospitalized in Panama City, according to reports during Thursday night’s ESPN boxing broadcast.
ESPN’s Bernardo Osuna said that Duran had “symptoms for the common cold,” and then tested positive for COVID-19. Osuna also said the major concern is that “one of (Duran’s) lungs does not have 100 percent function due to an accident suffered in Argentina in 2001.”
But son Robin Duran says that Roberto is “doing well.” The legendary fighter, considered one of the true pound-for-pound greats in history, is 69 years old. He fought professionally from 1968-2001, racking up a record of 103-16 (70 KO).
