Breaking: Teddy Riner is out of Worlds 2022

Teddy Riner will not participate at the World Championships in October in Tashkent (UZB). The ten time world champion suffered an injury since the end of August when he injured his ankle, but it was expected that he will recover until the tournament.

Four-time Olympic medallist Riner announced his withdrawal in social media. He will be replaced in the +100kg category by Joseph Terhec.

Teddy Riner competed at ten World Championships since 2007, where he won ten world titles. In 2010 he competed in both the individual as Open Championships, but lost the final of the open division against Daiki Kamikawa. Riner though didn’t compete at World Championships since 2017 when he last won his world title in Marakech (Open weight).

Since then he missed World Championships in Baku (2018), Tokyo (2019), Budapest (2021) and soon in Tashkent. He competed 60 contests and won 59 bouts at World Championships.
