Craig Jones Vs. Donald Cerrone In Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds 2021

‘UFC Legend and Grappling Superstar meet in the middle at Combat Jiu Jitsu Worlds 2021’

Eddie Bravo’s CJJ Worlds: The Featherweights just made a huge addition to their card. First announced via Bravo’s Instagram account, Craig Jones will take on UFC legend Donald Cerrone in a Combat Jiu-Jitsu superfight in Cancun, Mexico on December 19th. Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds: The Featherweights will stream on UFC Fight Pass on Sunday, December 19th at 3 p.m PT.

So far in the lineup, the 16-man tournament features CJJ Bantamweight champion Elias Anderson, Gabriel Austin Daffron, Michael Wacker, Chris Lencioni, Dillon Masington, David Weintraub, Jordan Holy, Cody Owens, David Acuña, Zack Schneider, Estevan Martinez and Keith Krikorian, with more to be announced.

Who Will Get the Win?

It should be interesting to watch these two go against one another and see if Craig goes for his statement heel hook to get the tap or if Cerrone gets the upper-hand and manages to tap Jones. Cerrone has only been submitted once before in his professional MMA career and holds the record for the most wins in UFC history with 22 and the most finishes in UFC history with 16.

However, although Cowboy is currently on a 5 loss streak in MMA, he did win his first submission grappling event at Submission Underground 19 back in December, beating UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos with an armbar in overtime; having since lost to him twice in the UFC.

The Aussie grappler Craig Jones currently has 32 wins with 27 of them being submission wins, the majority of those being RNC or inside heel hook.

What is Combat Jiu Jitsu?

Combat Jiu Jitsu is similar to a sub only No Gi BJJ match, but with one huge difference – strikes.

There are a few similarities between Combat Jiu Jitsu and MMA, but they are completely different competitions with unique rules and formats. MMA allows punches, kicks, elbows, and knees from standing plus punches and elbows on the ground. In CJJ, the only strikes allowed are open-handed strikes when on the ground.

Craig Injured Cerrone’s Rib Last Time They Rolled

Back in September of this year Craig spoke about rolling with Donald Cerrone to WNO, Jones mentions Cerrone approached him and wanted to roll with him. Cerrone had a fight that week, so Jones being concerned reiterated the point, to which Cerrone claimed it didn’t matter. It didn’t matter until Craig injured his rib that is!

“Before we rolled I asked ‘how hard can we roll?’ and he goes, ‘the fight is five days away – I can roll as hard as I want’. We started rolling and going at it, and we’re rolling, not too crazy hard, we had a few scrambles, and I ended up injuring his rib before the fight.” The presenters continue to mention that the fight Cerrone had against Alex Morono that week – he also lost so maybe he will have it in for Craig?
