A team of architects have proposed a new sports arena designed to look take the shape of the papakha, Dagestan’s national headdress. The building, which is expected to seat 7000 people, was inspired by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
According to preliminary plans, the arena will also include gyms, training facilities, a hotel, and a museum that showcases Dagestani athletes. The architects behind the project are currently seeking out the necessary approval and funding to ensure that this project moves forward.
However, the proposed arena has not been unanimously supported by Dagestan locals. One anonymous source told kp.ru that “Dagestan must show that besides the fists, our guys have brains! I have nothing against it, but they wanted to close the city hospital due to insufficient funding.”
Another unnamed local was even more vehemently opposed to the arena::
“Residents of Dagestan unanimously declared that the republic needs to develop not sport, but more important areas like education and medicine, for example.”
