Daniel Cormier: I think Sean Brady is one of the dark horses in the division

With the welterweight division booming, Daniel Cormier thinks one particular fighter needs to be included in the mix.

New contenders such as Khamzat Chimaev and Belal Muhammad have emerged in the past couple of weeks, but Cormier would like to see Sean Brady get his opportunity, too.

Cormier suggested Brady (15-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) fight Vicente Luque (21-8-1 MMA, 14-4 UFC), who saw his four-fight winning streak snapped at the hands of Muhammad in this past Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 34 headliner.

“There’s a guy that is on his way up. He just got into the top 15. I think he’s one of the dark horses in the division. His name is Sean Brady,” Cormier said on his ESPN show “DC & RC.” “Philadelphia kid, insanely tough, very gifted, undefeated since he’s gotten into the UFC.”

He continued, “Sean Brady vs. Vicente Luque because I believe at this point, Sean Brady, the Philadelphia guy, the tough hard-nose kid, wrestler, grappler, striker, can do it all, deserves an opportunity to stand across from one of the absolute best welterweights in the world, and we can see how far he can move up this division.”

Former Cage Fury FC welterweight champion Brady is unbeaten in his professional MMA career. He’s coming off his biggest win to date, a unanimous decision over Michael Chiesa at UFC Fight Night 198 this past November.
