Former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier is the latest addition to the growing roster at Wimp-2-Warrior, the mixed martial arts training program focused on everyday individuals partnering with coaches and gyms from around the world.
Cormier will join Wimp-2-Warrior under a multi-year partnership where he will act as an ambassador for the brand as well as hosting the program at his newly opened wrestling academy in Gilroy, Calif.
Former Bellator matchmaker Rich Chou, who joined Wimp-2-Warrior earlier this year as vice president in North America, spearheaded the efforts to land Cormier after he announced his retirement from active competition last year.
Chou previously worked with Cormier when he was the matchmaker over Strikeforce, which is where the two-time Olympian primarily competed before moving to the UFC.
“Look, anyone who knows me knows how invested I am in teaching,” Cormier said in a statement. “It’s why I coach wresting at Gilroy High School, why I opened up my academy and why I am partnering with W2W.
“This program represents everything that is good about martial arts and gives me a chance to give back by being an entry point to men and women who can’t shake that burning question of ‘can I do that?’”
Cormier’s gym will serve as a home for the Wimp-2-Warrior program but he will also be working directly with Conor McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh as an ambassador for the program, which also added UFC commentator Laura Sanko earlier this year as well.
In addition to Cormier’s signing, Wimp-2-Warrior also announced a new round of funding with a $7.5 million raise.
