Six months on from his last fight, #1 heavyweight contender Francis N’Gannou has been left frustrated with not having a fight booked in the near future.
N’Gannou (15-3) is currently on a four-fight winning streak, with all of those wins coming by knockout in the first round. The Cameroonian’s last bout was the quickest of the lot, a 20-second KO against Jairzinho Rozenstruik in May.
Talking recently to Morning Kombat, N’Gannou said he is in complicated situation after training for a long period without a fight scheduled.
“I’m in a position which is very complicated,” N’Gannou said. I’m in my prime age and I’m wasting time without fighting, so it’s kind of frustrating.” (Transcripton via MMA Junkie)
“We have to get something to motivate us. We have to make money. We have to do something for fighting. Sometimes when you wake up, it’s really hard to go to the gym and train because you need that motivation. Like, ‘OK, I’m training, but for what? When will I fight?’ I don’t know. So you have no clue about anything and it’s tough to find motivation.”
Last month UFC president Dana White said they are hoping to book a rematch between N’Gannou and the division’s champion Stipe Miocic in March of next year. The pair first fought in January 2018, when Miocic defended his title with a decision win against N’Gannou.
