Former world middleweight champ – Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1) signed a major contract with DAZN. The 36-year-old put his signature on a three-year, nine-figure deal and his first fight is scheduled for June 8 or 16.
The last time “GGG” fought was back in September when he lost via controversial MD his rematch with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Now since both Alvarez and Golovkin are under contract with DAZN, a third bout between them is expected, but there’s a big chance the trilogy will take place somewhere in 2020.
First, the Mexican has to face IBF middleweight king Daniel Jacobs on 4th of May and if he manages to get the W, then it’s likely he’ll wait for the Kazakh in September or early 2020.
Golovkin signed a 6-fight deal with DAZN which automatically means that he’ll retire after the contract expires. His first opponent under the DAZN flag is yet to be announced, but the likelihood is that he’ll be facing the WBO middleweight champ, Demetrius Andrade.
“DAZN has quickly become the new home of boxing by making the biggest events easily available to the fans,” Golovkin said. “When deciding on where I wanted to continue my career, DAZN’s global vision perfectly matched my goals. Thank you to my fans for all of the loyal support and I look forward to you joining me on DAZN.”
