Islam Makhachev capped his lightweight championship belt at UFC 302 after a victory against Dustin Poirier in Newark this weekend.
This was the toughest fight in his career so far against one of the all time greats in the division but he managed the get the job done in the fifth round with a perfect D’Arce choke forcing the Diamond to tap out.
Poirier admitted that he was out a second afterwards and that’s why the medics needed to intervene but the two shared mutual respect after the fight.
Makhachev moved up to third place in the all time winning streak in UFC history proving once again that he is destined for greatness.
Dustin on the other hand is on a crossroad – should he retire or should he continue his legacy in the organization.
