Former UFC referee and current Bellator pundit John McCarthy believes UFC will purposely use a smaller cage at the APEX facility so fights can be more action-packed.
“Big” John said on Twitter that even though there is a space for the typical 30-foot cage in UFC Apex, they have gone with the 25-foot size as it “creates more action.”
UFC operations staff knows it can put a 30ft cage in the Apex. The UFC prefers the smaller 25ft cage because they feel it creates more action. Fighters tend to like the 30ft cage because of the space. 25 ft cage came from WEC days and Joe Silva loved it. It’s just preference https://t.co/2CTNPM3TtS

UFC expects to return this upcoming Saturday to Las Vegas where the APEX Institute is, but first the Nevada State Athletic Commission has to vote later today for the return of boxing and mixed martial arts.
That might not seem like e big differences, but it is. There are a lot of fighters that prefer the bigger Octagon because thee’s more space to maneuver and get back if things get messy.
