Karate’s elite to meet in Baku for anticipated Karate 1 Premier League event

The fourth stop of the 2022 Karate 1-Premier League will be held in Baku (Azerbaijan) in seven days. A host of Karate stars have confirmed their participation in the event.

Scheduled for September 2 to 4, the Karate 1-Premier League Baku is one of the most anticipated events of the year. Nearly 400 athletes from 58 countries have registered to participate in the tournament. Five categories have completed the number of 32 athletes per division thus making the Karate 1-Premier League Baku one of the most attended Karate 1-Premier League events of the year.

GRAND WINNERS IN ACTION

The excitement ahead of the event is guaranteed as no less than eight Grand Winners will compete in Baku.

Serap Ozcelik Arapoglu of Turkey in Female Kumite -50kg, Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine in Female Kumite -55kg, Merve Coban of Turkey in Female Kumite -61kg, Feryal Abdelaziz of Egypt in Female Kumite -68kg, Meltem Hocaoglu Akyol of Turkey in Female Kumite +68kg, Ali Elsawy of Egypt in Male Kumite -67kg, Zabiollah Poorshab of Iran in Male Kumite -84kg, and Gogita Arkania of Georgia in Male Kumite +84kg all will be wearing the karategi with the golden embroidery on the shoulders at the event in Baku.

The tournament will be crucial in the quest to become the new Grand Winners.

KARATE STARS FIGHTING FOR GOLD

Fans will have plenty of stars to follow next week. In addition to the Grand Winners, the list of frontrunners competing in Baku is completed with five World champions attending the event.

Youssef Ahlam of Egypt in Female Kumite -55kg, Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan in Female Kumite -68kg, Steven Dacosta of France in Male Kumite -67kg, Youssef Badawy of Egypt in Male Kumite -84kg, and Gogita Arkania of Georgia in Male Kumite +84kg will be the athletes to beat in Baku.

It is the first time that a Karate 1-Premier League event is held in Baku. The capital city of Azerbaijan hosted the memorable 2015 European Games where Karate was one of the most followed sports.
