The original plan was for Brook (38-2, 26 KO) to fight Jessie Vargas on April 26th, but Vargas will instead face Humberto Soto on that date.
Brook has had one of the weirdest career trajectories in recent memory. He edged Shawn Porter for the IBF welterweight belt in 2014, spun his wheels with three easy defenses, then jumped up to 160 to fight Gennady Golovkin. After getting his eye socket broken by “GGG”, he returned to 147 to fight Errol Spence, who tore up the other eye en route to a stoppage win.
He spent 2018 demolishing Sergey Rabchenko and winning a meh decision over Michael Zerafa.
Brook says he wants Spence, but I don’t need to tell you how unlikely that is. It’s also odd that he wants another catchweight considering he’s in every sanctioning body’s top 5 at super welterweight.
The card itself does not currently have any confirmed undercard fights, though there has been talk of Katie Taylor facing Delfine Persoon in an attempt to unify all four lightweight titles.
