With Sergey Kovalev getting ready to defend his light heavyweight title against Canelo Alvarez this weekend, the titleholder answers a question about his experience fighting in Vegas (losing a questionable decision to Andre Ward in their first meeting), Canelo’s history of favorable scorecards in the city, and if he thinks it’s possible that he doesn’t get a fair shake should the fight go the distance.
“Yes, I have feeling it will be something. Could be, you know, because I had [this experience before], the wrong decision. But I don’t have concentration on this, you know, because my job is to show to the people good boxing, good fight — for future they can say like ‘this was the greatest fight, what we saw’ or ‘this is Fight of the Year.’
“This is much better than you lose but the judges gave you like a gift. It’s not like important for me.”
Boxing fans have seemingly long held the sentiment that it’s nearly impossible for Canelo to lose a decision in Las Vegas, but do you think this might actually end up being an issue for Kovalev in this fight?
