Lopez vs Kambosos: Fight still likely to move to Oct. 16

According to boxing reporter Lance Pugmire, Triller’s lightweight title fight between Teofimo Lopez and Geroge Kambosos has once again been rescheduled, now set for October 16th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY — a whopping fifth date change for the bout.

“Obviously this is a fight that has been postponed on multiple occasions,” Pugmire said. “It was supposed to take place in June, it was supposed to take place even earlier in October than the 16th, but the promoters have settled on Oct. 16, a Saturday night in Brooklyn as the best date for this fight,”

Pugmire would continue by saying the rescheduled show will now include a Verzuz rap battle that will supposedly be of “epic” proportions.

Now with all that said, there’s been some conflicting reports on just how official this change is, and whether or not Kambosos has formally agreed (or even needs to agree) to the change in date and venue.

Dan Rafael, for instance, reports that the Kambosos camp still need to sign off to make this change official.

Mike Coppinger for ESPN also mentions that Teofimo has signed off, and Kambosos has not.  Triller’s Ryan Kavanaugh said he’s well prepared to make that sacrifice for the betterment of the event.

“It’s unfortunate we had many bumps in the road. However, if it was easy, everyone would do it. Typically in our experience, the most challenging turns out to be the most rewarding. 100% going forward on the 16th. We’re very excited about pairing it with a Verzuz. A fight of this magnitude deserves the world stage, and that’s what we’re giving it.”

Certainly this won’t be the last chapter of the whole Lopez-Kambosos saga, but we’ll continued to keep you informed as more information becomes available.
