Marina Rodriguez was the big winner from last night’s UFC Vegas 39 event.
The 34-year-old Brazilian defeated Mackenzie Dern in the main event of the night via UD after the full five rounds went on. All three judges scored it 49-46 X3, as Rodriguez was obviously the better and more poised fighter throughout the whole fight.
Dern’s best round was the second one. The 28-year-old grappling specialist managed to do some serious damage in the second five minutes, thanks to her outstanding ground and pound. Still, Rodriguez’s defence was on point and she didn’t allow nothing too serious to happen to her.
Rodriguez had a significantly better third round thanks to her punching and kicking skills. Dern was the one looking to cut the distance and work in the clinch, but Marina was keeping her on her toes with some nasty low kicks that echoed through the UFC APEX facility.
That was Rodriguez third consecutive victory, as now she’s probably just a fight away from getting a title shot.
Dern, on the other hand, lost for a first time since October 2019 She was riding a four fight winning streak up until yesterday.
